James Bond - film shooting on the glacier
“Spectre” – the winter Bond film
January and February 2015 at the Sölden glacier skiing area in the Ötztal Alps were dedicated entirely to 007 when the roughly 500-person film crew transformed the region around Sölden into a container park in order to film the action-packed rehearsal scenes for the new Bond film “Spectre”. The setting in Sölden served as a breath-taking winter backdrop for Daniel Craig’s usual coolness as James Bond.
In addition to Daniel Craig, stars such as Léa Seydoux also gave performances in the Ötztal glacier area.
007 in Austria
Among other locations, the Ötztal locations for “Spectre” included the Ice Q restaurant at Gaislachkogl, the glacier road and the glacier tunnel: exploding cars and burnt-out helicopters were among the action-packed props to marvel at.
In the 24th James Bond film – a “winter Bond film” –007 has to deal with a sinister organisation named “SPECTRE”, whose machinations he seeks to expose in the course of the plot.
In the autumn of 2015 fans can look forward to an even more spectacular cinema experience than “Skyfall” even offered – the “Sölden” backdrop particularly provides a bonus for Austrian cinema audiences. Altaussee and the tiny municipality Obertilliach in the Gail Valley can also be seen in the film.
Another bonus for Austria: none other than Christoph Waltz will play Bond’s rival in “Spectre”. Léa Seydoux, who certainly became a darling of the public at the latest in “Blue is the warmest colour”, plays the pretty lady in the trio.
